Birth Control Pills for Dogs

A recent option has come available for birth control products available for dogs. There exists 2 birth control pill options for canines.

Birth Control Pills for Dogs – Ovaban Rx(Milbolerone)

Although effective when given properly, this liquid oral contraceptive for dogs must be administered once a day for 30 days prior to the dog coming into heat. Veterinarians recommend using this birth control only Mother Dog and Her Puppiesafter the female has had her first full heat.

Where this form of birth control for dogs becomes a problem is determining the month prior to heat. This timing is impossible to predict with 100% accuracy. This problem may lead to the animal being on the dosage for a longer period than recommended which can lead to adverse side effects.

These side effects can include skin problems, damage to the liver, personality changes, and body odor. Certain breeds should never be administered Cheque Drops – these are breeds that are predisposed to kidney and liver diseases.

If you are interested in trying this product, talk to your vet about it.

Birth Control Pills for Dogs – Ovaban Rx – (Megestrol Acetate)
